Family Worship

What is Family Worship?

Each week, kids and students will join us for the entire service to hear the teaching as we pray, reflect, and praise God together. Jesus wants everyone to come and commune with Him; and that includes our children!

"Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.''
Matthew 19:14

Why do we do it?

We are convinced that the most spiritually formative thing for our kids is witnessing mom and dad worshiping Jesus. Just like we need trained in our worship of God, our kids do too.

"Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it."
Proverbs 22:6

Lead your family to Christ.

And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise… Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Parents, God commands you to teach our kids about Him with your lips and your life. If it’s not primarily your lips or your life that’s teaching your kids about Jesus—you are passing off a core responsibility that God has given to you.

Tips on how to do so.
God always meets us where we are, not where we should have been. If you are just beginning this journey with your kids—no matter if they are toddlers or teenagers—God grace is available to help!

Although we will provide many resources, discussion guides, and crafts to help you engage in Jesus-centered conversations, start by praying with them and praying over them. Don’t be afraid to “pray bad.” God honors this kind of faith and rewards it.

Don’t do it alone.
Many other parents are on this journey together. We support one another through House Church and GroupMe messaging platforms to share prayer requests and ways we are seeing God move in our children.

Family Discipleship

Who is a Disciple?

Luke 9:23
Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.

___

A disciple is one who responds in faith and obedience to the gracious call to follow Jesus. It is a lifelong process of dying to self while allowing Jesus to come alive in us.

What is Discipleship?

Matthew 28:18-20
...go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you...

___

An intentional relationship in which we walk alongside other disciples in order to encourage, equip and challenge one another in love to grow towards maturity in Christ. This includes equipping the disciple to make disciples who make disciples.

What is Family Discipleship?

Deuteronomy 6:4-8
...these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise...

___

No one is more influential on children than their parents. We are convinced the most spiritually effective thing for our kids is witnessing dad and mom worshiping Jesus with their whole life. God tells parents to teach their children diligently about him in the everyday flow of life.

Disciple-making is about three things:

Truth, Relationship, & Life

God’s Truth found in His Word:
the content for disciple-making

God has given us everything needed for life and godliness (1 Peter 1:3 & 2 Timothy 3:16). God’s Word (the Bible) is completely sufficient. The Holy Spirit teaches and imparts wisdom to us as we seek God through His Word (John 14:26). This means we ourselves have to know God’s Word and abide in the Spirit in order to disciple someone else.

Authentic relationship:
the context for disciple-making

Jesus modeled relational disciple-making when he lived among us and chose 12 men to pour his life into. God’s truth is most effectively transmitted through relationship. However, unlike Jesus, we will make mistakes along the way. Authenticity builds trust when we own our mistakes and repent.

Everyday life:
the setting for disciple-making

Jesus taught his disciples as shepherds in fields and fishermen in boats. God’s truth must not be relegated to scheduled times and artificial environments. It’s best learned in the everyday moments of normal life.

What does this look like at Rubber City Church?

Sunday Morning: Corporate family worship.

When children are with their parents in worship, they see faith in action. They hear their dad and mom sing to Jesus. They watch people pray. They witness baptisms, communion, the preaching of God's Word—all of it planting seeds in their little hearts. It may not always seem like they’re getting everything, but they’re getting more than we know—because God is faithful.

House Church: Doing life with other disciples (dinner, discussion, and prayer). Our children need to see that we too are on a journey of discipleship.

Activities: Take home crafts, conversation starters, and resources for parents each week.

Community: Access to our group on the Remind app to share “real life, real time” ideas our families are implementing to disciple within their home.
